The Humane Conference in New Mexico facilitates knowledge-sharing and collaboration among animal welfare professionals, veterinarians, animal control officers, veterinary technicians, and rescue groups.
This workshop will explore the difference between risk and harm frameworks, the importance of understanding post-separation coercive control, and targeting professionals and systems as part of perpetrators' patterns. It will also discuss how to understand and contextualize protective parenting behaviors, the importance of a behavioral approach to objectivity and neutrality, and increasing accountability for perpetrators as parents in the family court context. Participants will learn how to apply their expertise in domestic violence-informed practice in one-on-one and small-group consultations. The workshop will focus on promoting critical thinking, risk and safety assessment, appropriate case planning recommendations, and overall best practices in domestic violence cases. The session is specifically designed for Safe & Together Model™ Certified Trainers. The keynote speaker, David Mandel, will discuss his forthcoming book and address the issue of blaming mothers, ignoring fathers, and improving child safety in domestic violence situations.
